Inspired By O’Keeffe Contest

matisseIMAIf you visited the IMA’s Matisse exhibition last year, you might have noticed that the last room was full of children’s art.  Kids from around the state were invited to submit their own art inspired by the work of Henri Matisse.  It was really cool to see and an even cooler way to get students submersed in art.

They are doing it again this year with the upcoming Georgie O’Keeffe exhibition, Georgia O’Keeffe and the Southwestern Still Life, opening in November until February.  All Indiana students grades preK through 12th are invited to submit art inspired by Ms. O’Keeffe.  You can find all the guidelines and submission form here.  Everything you need to know is there, including who to contact with additional questions, but here’s some of the basics:

  • Submissions must be received by Friday, October 3, 2014.
  • Five students from age group from each school may submit art (your homeschool is considered a school).
  • Art must be 2D, on 11×14 Bristol board or similar acid-free paper, and horizontal.
  • This is cool:  instead of sending in the actual art, you scan or take a picture of it and submit it digitally in powerpoint form.  If your child’s art is selected I believe you will then take in the actual piece.
  • There are three age groups:  PreK-4th grade, 5th-8th, and 9th-12th.  Four winners (1st place, 2nd place, and two honorable mentions) in each age group will be chosen by judges to be displayed in the “Inspired by the Southwest” gallery.  There will be a special award ceremony and your family will have the opportunity to tour the new exhibition for free.
