This year, we have been trying out a few different sites to find the best source of supplemental worksheets for our homeschool. As I’ve previously discussed, my kids and I do a lot of unit studies. I am great at finding books for learning about a subject, but when it comes to reinforcing our learning through worksheets or tests, I have a hard time finding things, especially as my kids grew out of preschool activities and well in to elementary school. This month we have been checking out HelpTeaching.com, a site dedicated to helping educators find, and create, the resources they need. For the purpose of this review, we received a Help Teaching Pro Subscription for one year.
HelpTeaching.com offers printable worksheets, activities, and tests for grades Kindergarten all the way through 12. Because my boys are in third and fifth grade now, I focused on those grades. One thing I really like about this site is its organization. You can browse by subject or grade. Grades are broken down into subjects, then the subjects are further broken down into topics. In English Language Arts alone, for grade three, you can find many worksheets and activities on writing, grammar, spelling, vocabulary, literature, and more! For both boys, I was most interested in supplementing their science. For third grade, there were close to fifty activities and worksheets available under the science subject. For fifth grade, that number was even higher and the options were more detailed. This is such a great help for reinforcing ideas we are learning through our reading!

In addition to a number of pre-made worksheets, activities, and tests, you also have the ability to make your own tests and worksheets with the Test Maker. With the Pro membership (the one we received, which costs $24.95 per year), you can make tests with up to one hundred questions, and you can add images to your tests and worksheets. The Test Maker makes it super easy to plug in the information you want and get a professional looking, quality worksheet or test from it. Another benefit to the Pro membership is the Test Room, in which you can create and administer your tests online, without having to print anything out! Also available are video lessons in English Language Arts, math, and science that coincide with many of the worksheets and give an even greater review of the subject.
Overall, HelpingTeacher.com is a great resource for printables and creating your own tests. The items available are high quality and offer a great way to check your child’s learning. There are many resources available for all grades, especially upper elementary. I am able to find options for most of the subjects we are studying, and creating my own resources is really easy and helpful. The site itself is easy to navigate. The design of it is simple, which means less distraction and faster browsing times. I’m able to log in, find exactly what I want, and get it without wading through a large sea of unnecessary extras. I highly recommend this site if you are looking for a good, simple way to use printables and create your own tests in your homeschool.
