I’m writing to you as the organizer of Meals on Wheels’ new teen service initiative, “Generational Jump”. The program offers children ages 12-19 the opportunity to earn a minimum of 20 hours of community service while learning about the plight of hunger among our homebound senior and disabled community. Participants also have the opportunity to apply for a college scholarship. We are accepting applications for the inaugural class through February 1st. An information flier and registration for can be downloaded from the website at http://www.generationaljump.org. Please feel free to contact me at 317.908.7810 if you have additional questions. It is our hope you will tell your members about this opportunity for their children. Thank you so much for your consideration.
Warmly,
Vicki Burdick

FYI. I’m looking at your site from my iPhone and it is extremely as heavy and busy. But what I really wanted to mention is that some of your ads are offensive. They appear to be magazines and links to other off site articles and I’m sure you might not be choosing them individually if you’re working with an affiliate manager.

Applications Now Being Accepted for Youth Leadership United

Youth Leadership United (YLU) is a program of United Way of Central Indiana. Our next training class (2015) will be recruiting students in fall 2014. High school freshmen, sophomores and juniors (2014-15 school year) are eligible to apply.
United Way welcomes students who:
• Are interested in community issues.
• Are interested in volunteer service.
• Want to develop their leadership potential.
• Want to serve alongside adults on nonprofit boards and committees.
Each year, YLU selects and trains 25 high school students from Boone, Hamilton, Hancock, Hendricks, Marion and Morgan counties. YLU is one of several youth-focused civic participation programs offered by United Way of Central Indiana.

Classes and activities are scheduled outside the school day and begin with an opening retreat in January and continue for six Saturday sessions between February and April.

Training includes sessions on philanthropy and giving, board responsibilities, meeting procedures, diversity, consensus and team building, community issues, personal mission, hands-on community service and more. All the sessions are in Indianapolis and a $50 fee is charged each youth selected as a participant.

Youth also become familiar with United Way and its community priorities and agencies. Program graduates are provided opportunities to serve on local nonprofit boards or committees.

Applications are due Friday, October 31, 2014

To apply and learn more about the program, visit http://www.uwci.org/ylu. Contact Annie Smith, 317.920.2565 or [email protected] if you have question.

In its 20th year, YLU has previously placed youth graduates on boards with such organizations as American Red Cross of Greater Indianapolis, Indiana Sports Corporation, Noble of Indiana, Marion County Commission on Youth, IU School of Medicine Adolescent Health, and Social Health Association, to name a few.

One recent participant had this to say about the program: “The program taught me responsibility by giving me tasks to make me step out of the box, asking me to do things I never thought of or had tried before.”
